Tying the Knot #4

: A Love Beyond
Time & Distance

Nick + Jessica

Some may think that their marriage won’t be as heartfelt and emotional as they’ve witnessed in movies. But not when you’re marrying the one - the love of your life. Quite frankly, you really won’t know until they put a ring on it and you walk down that aisle. Continue reading our next Tying the Knot to find out about a love greater than time and distance!

“He asked me to move to Vegas and live with him. Aaaaaand that’s how our story really began.”

Q. How did you guys first meet and fall in love?

A. Long story short, we met in High School back in 2004 but we didn’t officially start hanging out around 2009. Nick was the sporty popular guy and I was the quiet, kept to herself type of girl. After high school, Nick went straight to college and I ended up staying home in Santa Cruz finishing beauty school and trying to figure out what to do after that (it took me a while). Then he moved to Las Vegas to finish college and stayed there to live. I moved to LA and went to college there. We both went back home in December of 2014 and he begged me to go out and hangout with everyone but I didn’t want to… Then, he finally convinced me. We reconnected. We ended up talking everyday and visiting each other after that. When I was about to graduate, I told him I was thinking of moving to Texas. He knew the possibility of us staying together would be very slim. I had done a long distance relationship before and I told him I would never do that again, so he asked me to move to Vegas and live with him. Aaaaaand that’s how our story really began.

“I knew I wanted to marry Nick when I saw how he treated my siblings. [...] Marriage was the cherry on top.”

Q. How did you know you wanted to marry each other & who wanted to tie the knot first?

A. There are little things that I knew I wanted to marry Nick since the beginning of our relationship but one of the things that really made me realize and knew I wanted to marry Nick was when I saw how he treated my siblings. He was instantly a big brother to both of them. This was about six months to a year of us dating. For Nick, it was a little different. He didn’t believe in marriage but he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me about three months into the relationship. His mind changed on marriage though but it took him a little over six years to propose. Marriage was on my mind but it wasn’t a priority. To many, this time would be a problem but for us it wasn’t an issue. It passed super fast, we got to know each other better, traveled a little and got two dogs in the meantime. Marriage was the cherry on top.

“I like things that are not typical. Nick picked the Oblique Line Ring with two Doric Column Bands because it has a medieval look to it and it was different."

Q. Why did you choose Hiddenspace, how did you hear about us, and what made you decide on this specific ring?

A. I had been following you. I think your page came up when I searched for salt and pepper diamonds. I would randomly send my sister pictures of rings. My sister was secretly helping Nick. Nick picked the Oblique Line Ring with two Doric Column Bands because it has a medieval look to it and it was different. I like things that are not typical.

“I always thought it was cheesy when women cried while they were being proposed to and here I was… Crying!”

Q. Tell us about the proposal & the details of the wedding. How did you feel? How did it go?

A. I had to go to Mexico for an emergency. Nick was in Mexico City for a business trip when I told him I was going. He knew he wanted to propose around the agave plants and this would be a perfect opportunity, so he flew back to California just to get the ring and left for Mexico the next day with me. While we were there, Nick was working on this proposal with the help of my cousin. I had no idea it was coming. We decided to go to my aunt's ranch, which I didn’t understand ‘why’ as it seemed like it was going to rain and I had no interest in going. When we got there, I saw this woman taking pictures (she was behind a huge cactus plant). I was so confused so many thoughts were going through my head but a proposal was not one. I then saw the setup. I asked Nick what was going on, he told me, "This is the place I am going to ask you to marry me." I could not believe it. I always said and thought it was cheesy when women cried while they were being proposed to and here I was... Crying! It was a beautiful experience. Eight months later, we went back to Mexico to get married at this beautiful church in San Jose De Gracia, Jalisco surrounded by family and friends. We had family and friends fly from Peru, California and Oregon. Everyone danced till 2am and everyone enjoyed themselves so much! It was absolutely perfect! Our hearts were so happy and full that whole day.

“Have fun, dance together, even if you don’t know how to. Oh yeah, and support your partner even if their dreams seem a little crazy!”

Q. Any advice to future couples? Anything else you’d like to share with the world?

A. We haven’t been married for long at all but we have been living together for a little over seven years. A relationship is about what you create together! Have fun, dance together, even if you don’t know how to, don’t forget to appreciate each other and always remember to make time for each other. Oh yeah, and support your partner even if their dreams seem a little crazy!
